The other Friday a bunch of us from work took the day off to play a little scramble golf tournament. This was our fifth year and I've played with my buddy Dennis every time. We won the first year but have fallen short ever since. This year we got smoked. If we hadn't had our one blow-up hole (a double bogey), I wouldn't've been so disappointed. At least we got that one birdie. I chipped us in about five feet off the green and about thirty feet from the hole. We had plenty of other birdie opportunities, just no real easy ones. Each of the putts was at least 15-20', which is tough for us duffers.
Played the Adobe course at the Biltmore, my first time. Definitely prefer the Links course there. Thankfully this year it wasn't the hottest day of the year, although it was quite muggy.

Birday
I got this delicious, beautifully-decorated cake for my birthday, made by my loving wife.

Then on my actual birthday, she presented me with probably the best birthday gift I've ever received -- a quilt made out of my old t-shirts. I had reluctantly given these up at Bobbins' urging a while ago, thinking they were gone for good. But she turned them into a wonderful product of love and a true storytelling quilt.

Vampire Mitt
Nice riff by Mark Steyn in The Corner in response to the anti-Romney ad basically saying he killed that guy's wife (which was orchestrated by the Obama campaign despite early denials):
"it’s not just that Mitt Romney hasn’t paid any taxes since 1975 and that Bain Capital is the planet’s largest distributor of E. coli which it manufactures in petri dishes offshored to Mitt’s safe deposit box in the Cayman Islands, but that Mitt will kill your loved ones five years after his minions lay you off. Just because he can. He doesn’t have to meet you. You might show no outward signs of ill health. You might even have a job and health insurance. But you bear the Mark of Mitt, and decades later when you keel over and expire it’ll be because he once laid off your brother, or your cousin, or your hairdresser’s sister, or someone who once heard something from someone who knows Harry Reid.
"Don’t get hung up on details, folks. Details are how the vampire capitalist seduces you into surrendering to his vise-like death grip. Remember, when Obama was a youngster, he fought for social justice and opened up a Jakarta dog shelter in his digestive tract. But the young Romney traveled around Europe opening numbered bank accounts in Zurich and biting women in the neck."

Crash Course on the Crusades
Best short explanation of what they were and deconstruction of five of the top myths, with this point in mind:
"It is worth our time to be versed in the facts and especially to recall the tremendous faith, sacrifice, and courage that inspired the vast majority of the Crusaders to act in defense of Christendom."

Spilt Milk
Yesterday MM and I met Grandpa and Uncle Zach at the Kofa Cafe in Salome, AZ. I had always wanted to try this place and we had to meet somewhere to exchange vehicles, so it worked. My dad and Zach arrived late, so MM and I had plenty of time to check out the joint, which is old school Americana/Arizona greasy spoon. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our orders. Zach practially inhaled his chicken sandwich.
My dad was worried about MM's glass of milk spilling when she took a drink. Of course it was him who spilt it by accidentally knocking it over with his menu.
Thanks again Gramps, it was a nice lunch.

Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day
Me and a few guys from work ventured over to the Chick-Fil-A on Scottsdale Road for Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day. We waited until after 1pm trying to avoid the crowd, but no matter, the place was packed. The line was outside the door and the drive-thru line into the street. It was nice to see people stand up for religious liberty and free speech, and also biblical values. It's amazing to me that we're at this point. Twenty years ago this would've been a non-starter, not even a thought in anyone's mind. But now showing support for a centuries-old, very common position is deemed bigotry.
I generally dislike how the Left has made everything political. It shouldn't have to matter where you shop, what you buy, where you eat. But such is the case when the "personal is political." I don't feel like we chose this fight but are being forced into this position. Chick-Fil-A's values are my family's values, and we're not ashamed to show it, nor be intimidated into backing down.
