Hanging with Aunt Gin

Bobbins and the girls have had the wonderful opportunity to spend time with Bobbins' Aunt Gin, who moved to Phoenix several months ago.

New Nightgowns

Bobbins made some great new nightgowns for the girls the other night.  Thankfully they appreciated her hard work.

They broke them in by doing ballet.  Why not?

Dinner with Friends

We got a sitter (thanks Aunt Katie) and rode our bikes to the Culinary Dropout - Yard  on 7th St.  A former car dealership (if I remember correctly), the place has a huge, covered outdoor area with cornhole, ping pong, foosball, and lots of chairs & tables.  Inside is a trendy restaurant and bar.  We met Kevin & Jess for a nice night out.  Kevin had three bacon margaritas which he devoured and promptly became tired.  Bobbins' grilled artichoke wasn't that great.  My fried chicken wasn't too bad, washed down by a nice Hefeweizen.  We talked a lot about our kids' educations and later had fun playing ping pong.

 

C U T E

New Twin Bed

So with Julia coming we needed a new twin bed.  Bobbins called me at work all excited one day, saying she had found the perfect frame that was white and would match the furniture.  And best of all, it was only $1!  When I got home I unloaded the bundles and placed them in the blue room (first photo below, at left).  I quickly realized there was no headboard...and no footboard...and no feet. It was all sideboards.  Undaunted, I stripped off the 1x on all but two of the sideboards, then cut four 16" legs out of a 2x4 and sanded & painted them.  We got some hardware from Ace.  I cut down the remaining boards to support the mattress.  Luckily I had a couple other pieces of 1x (the non-white ones) to fill in.  I think it turned out alright, although we'll see once someone actually sleeps on it.  Now, to get a mattress....

Pinback Show

Like two years ago, we managed to catch a good concert in Del Mar's summer series, a band Bobbins was particularly fond of:  San Diego-based Pinback. We managed to get a great spot in the middle, right by the front.  It worked out great when the guitarist, Rob Crow, jumped into the crowd and ran toward the back (end of the video below).  He went right by us.  The crowd loved it.

Here's a VIDEO of Bobbins' favorite songs they played.  They did two sets and played for a long time.  Bobbins' feet and back were starting to hurt, so we had Coach come pick us up.  Just like high school kids.

What Vacation's For

So glad we skipped Legoland, SeaWorld, and the Zoo.  No rushing around, no fighting crowds, no spending outrageous amounts of money.

Just relaxing on the beach.

Hard to beat that.

Buried

Our last day, the girls wanted to be buried in the sand.

Of course her sister wanted some action too.  She didn't fare as well but enjoyed it for a minute.

 

Del Mar

One day we ambled down the hill to Del Mar for a day at the races.  We got a couple winning bets on the four races we played (this horse at left was not one of them).  The girls' favorite part was watching the horses in the walking ring, seeing them run to the finish, and eating kettle corn.
 

 

JoJo's Day

We also celebrated JoJo's baptism day.

 

Dinner and Cake

For my birthday, we went to Pizza Port for dinner.  It wasn't as good as I remembered before, especially the pizza.  The craft beer was, though.


The best part was getting to walk there, including a nice setting sun at Fletcher's Cove.


My mom and Bobbins got me a custom chocolate cake, of which I enjoyed one piece.

We got a nice laugh at how she managed to get this.

How Did She Get There?

Because of her thumbsucking, MM slept on her bedroll in Nana T and Poppy's room.  JoJo slept on her bed roll with us.  She's quite a mover but surprised us both by maneuvering underneath the bed with just her face out to breathe.  I couldn't find her at her first and got a little worried, then Bobbins spotted her angelic visage.

Boogie Boarding

MM and I took Poppy's old boogie board out into the surf that first day.  I was going to send her by herself at first but figured that might be a bit much, esp. if she fell off, so I had her climb on my back and we rode together.  We caught a couple okay waves but the surf wasn't that great that day.  Still, fun.
