Memorial Day

Thanks, of course, to all those who have served and are serving our country this day.

We loaded up the bikes and headed for the Zoo.  About 200 other families had the same idea, although not with bikes.  It was pretty cool to petal around the place.  MM enjoyed the monkeys and zebras, and we also had some good views of the lions and tigers.  It was only about 80degrees out, optimal for us and the animals being out.  We ate lunch at some covered benches in Papago Park.

After super naps, my sister and brother came over for a BBQ.  We tossed a football in the backyard while the girls ran around naked (Josie to air her rash).  Olden socialized Katie's new dog Mumford.  MM said Olden's name for the first time, instead of "Oh-no."

Plane Home

As they were on the way up, the girls were real troopers on the plane home.  Me lugging the three bags to check-in.

Of course she fell asleep 30 minutes before landing.

Multnomah Falls

Sunday we drove east of Portland to Multnomah Falls, the second tallest year-round waterfall in the U.S.  The rain held off and it was a cool day, perfect for hiking.  The trail being paved the whole way to the top, we decided to double Bob two of the kids.  MM rode on my back while Josie on her mom's chest.  It was a great day.

Official moms!

Pushing and lugging the double Bob was a real work-out, as Kevin will attest.  Jonah slept most of the way.

Our Lodging

Luckily, we had our own room.  Josie got stuck in "solitary confinement" in the closet, however, behind the door.  MM had a green comforter on the floor as bedding.

Baptism

The main reason for our visit was to be the godparents of our friends' new baby boy, at Holy Rosary Church in downtown Portland.  It's a traditional, beautiful, restored 19th-century church run by the Dominicans.  It's also where our friends got married.

The church still had (and used) a communion rail, which the girls tried out

One of the highlights of their week was visiting the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI).

Getting excited on the way there, car full of kids
