New Hike

The Saturday of Presidents Day weekend Aunt Katie came over to go hiking (minus Bobbins). We didn't have to drive anywhere: there's a couple mountains within walking distance of the new house. Easily one of the best parts about moving here - being able to go hiking right down the street! I packed Booch on my back and put hats on all 3 while Katie made lunch. I don't know the name of the peak by us but it was a good ways up with nice views all the way around.  The way down was a little more treacherous and steep than I would've liked, but we made it with no big falls, just a few slips. By the end we were hot enough to jump in the pool, but it was freezing cold and we jumped right back out.

New Pool Pump and Filter

Jacopone didn't like our pool set-up, so he gathered up a good used pump and used DE filter from other jobs to put in our pool.  He and I jackhammered the concrete around the old equipment and managed to lug the old sand filter out (full of water and imitation sand).  The next day he and Paul plumbed in new piping.  The new set-up should be more efficient and use less water, at least according to Jacopone.

Bookshelf Build

Bobbins bought a white bookshelf from ikea for her new sewing room and got most of it put together by herself, but needed the boys to nail on the back.  Owen loved it.


She's probably going to need at least one more bookshelf back there to house all her sewing stuff.  We don't know how it all fit in the laundry room of the old house because it takes up a bunch of space in the new room.

We've Got a Bike Rider

We worked with Cell quite a bit back at the old house but took a break during the move. We took the pedals off so she could use her bike as a coaster, and that helped a lot. She could coast down our street almost the whole way. After that, we knew it was time for the pedals to go back on, and she pretty much got it right away. Sure a sight to see.

Tonight after dinner Owen was full of pep and laughter. It was quite a change from the previous 2 weeks. He had some kind of stomach bug that killed his appetite and gave him bad diarrhea. We finally figured it out and got it out of him, and he returned to his old happy self. But he gave the bug to me, unfortunately.

Some Garage Progress

A few weekends ago my dad and I, along with Zach, made some progress getting the garage organized. It took us longer than expected (surprise) to put the safe in the master closet, then to install a new light fixture, but we managed to rip out the old cabinets and get the back wall shelves up. Bobbins sold the cabinets (custom installs) on craigslist for $50. We were both just glad to get rid of them. Hope to finish the garage in a couple weeks so we can park the vehicles in there.

 

Who knows what those silly 1970s stripes on the wall were for. Owen had a fun time out helping us, swinging his hammer and getting into other things.
