90s
When Bobbins and I were shooting pool and listening to 'classic' 90s music the other day, I couldn't help but think of these days
before wives, careers, mortgages, kids ....

Friday
Friday eight of us cut out of work early to play a two-team scramble at the Biltmore Links Course. This was our third year out, first at the Biltmore, and first time for me playing golf there. We had a great time even though my team lost and had to fork over $20 (enough for the other team's beers afterward). One guy, to be unnamed, pegged an old minivan from the tee on #15. That was a very neat hole, abutting Lincoln Drive, with the tee on a hill and the green far below and great views of Camelback Mountain. It's only a par 3 that allegedly plays at 165 but was really more like 190. We eked out a par, using a lucky tee shot that bounced from the desert into the miniscule green spot between the two traps in front of the green. The other team needed 8 shots (all four of their mulligans) to make it near the green and save their par.
We made very good use of our mulligans. I sank a 12' par putt on #16 and D made a very nice 8' birdie putt on #18.
Like last year, we got off to a slow start, bogeying #1. Our other bogey was on the easiest hole of the course. The stars are birdie putts missed. That second birdie was pretty awesome, with D stroking an amazing sand wedge over a high tree and tall bunker to within six feet of the cup, then draining the putt himself.
When I got home I jumped in the neighbors' pool with MM to cool off. We then fired up the grill for brats we had saved from last week. We had four and I figured I'd get 2 and a half, but MM gobbled all of hers up. It was a great day. If only I had enough leave and extra scratch to do it every Friday in the summer!

Random Thoughts
One of the great things about blogging is that all your thoughts, no matter how stupid, can be saved for posterity.
- If we were really slick, we'd have a twitter account linked but we're not that special yet.
- Bobbins has only gotten more beautiful and sexy, especially when playing pool and listening to 90s music
- The Expendables was pretty good, a great homage to 80s action flicks with some pretty sweet and crazy action scenes; was really glad to get out with my buddy Feather to see it today
- Never thought fatherhood would include trying to keep my daughter from touching the urinal while I peed in it.
- The best kids stuff (toys, clothes) are the ones you inherit from friends and family (thanks D and Reb for all the stuff yesterday!)
Flight of the C's
One of our favourite shows is Flight of the Conchords. We finally got season two on DVD from Netflix.

Match Point
Seeing as I never had a sister, going over board with sister outfits is in my blood. I think maybe once or twice most likely once, I had a matching outfit with my cousin. The only time I remember was for a Chirstmas picture. We both had the same dress. I rememebr standing in front of the tree feeling like I had a sister and that it was so awesome and special. The dresses were a taffita plaid with a black velvet corset top. I couldn't tell you where the photo is if my life depended on it.
How wonderful it was to be connected to my cousin, until she was too cool for that. Then again I was by myself. Unless of course you count looking like a boy and therefore by default I matched one of my four brothers.
In the game of sisterhood matching we have a winning duo. My husbands grandmother bestowed upon us a few sets of pillow cases that were hand embroidered. I hated to throw or donate them so with a few snips and stitches I turned them into dresses. One for each gill.
Since I was on a role with the machine I also made us a few skirts for a cowboy party. Thanks to Aunt Katie for the red boots that completed Marcelly's outfit.
I am sure at some point, hopefully not soon, the girls will say no mommy I want to wear my own outfit or I am tired of matching mommy no. But until that times comes I will match my their little hearts out.

Swimming in CA Pic's
Shots my mom took when MM and I visited CA in July.
After moving furniture and hooking up the computer, the water felt great. Thanks Mom and Gen!

Saturday Photos
Saturday we trudged out to the mall for a photo shoot. My mom and Steve wanted to get some family shots. You can view all 71 pic's on snapfish (link to the right), but here's a couple highlights.

Here's the "Put it on my desk and feel like a dad" shot. This really hit home for me as far as being a dad.
Busted!
This is for the cover of Amish Weekly.
I actually liked the Puritan label better, being a US historian.
This was our gown, cap, and brown chair. Bobbins thought it'd be fun to costume her out. Don't you think?

GZ Mosque
Charles Krauthammer's Sunday column is the best commentary I've seen. Very even-handed and on-the-mark, as usual for him. One of my buddies from work had the great idea of starting a "Richard the Lionhearted Center for Dialogue" next door to this Cordoba deal. One thing I haven't seen much on is the significance of the Cordoba name. It's been touted as a reference to a time and place (medieval Spain) of understanding and respect between Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. Maybe if you were a Muslim. Let's not forget that Cordoba was under Islamic rule then, with Sharia law and taxes for non-Muslims. Hardly a model of tolerance.

Baptism Photo Highlights
Saturday Josie became a child of God at our parish. We were excited when we discovered it would be our favorite priest, the pastor Fr. John, administering the sacrament. One of the deacons had been on the schedule. We had a very nice turn-out of family and friends and a get-together at the house afterward. Thanks to those who came.
Bobbins sure looked nice. J made out with a number of very nice gifts.
