Bonnets and Baskets

Our neighborhood put on a parade and an egg hunt for Easter. The parade "Bonnets and Baskets" started at the end of Mulberry street and we marched our way to the LDS grass to hunt for eggs.
I got right to making their bonnets. I found a Mormon trek website with a pattern and the gills bonnets came out cute as ever. In fact I almost think this is one of the best things that I have made. I am ready to finish the prairie costume any day now.

Margaret had a great time. As soon as she had permission to go gather eggs, she gathered while the boys hunted, she bolted and literally grabbed everyone she could see. A boy tried to take one of her eggs from the basket and she practically pushed him over and screamed NO. I couldn't help but laugh while saying "we can share Margaret".

She was really cute and enjoyed her sucker. The children were able to get their faces painted and the artist did a great job. Believe it or not JoJo sat pretty well for her that I really didn't need to hold her in a head lock. Margaret did a great job too and because it was their first time with face painting I was a pretty proud mom.

Happy Easter!

Sat. Night Date

Last night my friend Featha treated us to a fancy Italian dinner.  He got promoted at work and wanted to take out his closest friends and their wives.  Treat us he did:  wine, hors d'euvres, main course, desserts.  And a nice toast to our friendship, which is mutually cherished.

Afterward, we went for a drink and billiards at a nearby bar.

Graffiti as Art?

Great article from Heather Mac Donald about a graffiti exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.  I didn't know that the 'artist' who did the iconic Obama "Hope" portrait started in graffiti and shares many of the movement's misplaced ideas and anarchist tendencies.  We are certainly no fans of graffiti around here, suffering its blight on Thomas regularly, probably by punk high school kids from North H.S.  Even Bobbins, as an artist, has no time for people who trash private property and proudly proclaim it "art."

Pats Run 2011

The main advantage of not running Baker to Vegas this year was getting to do Pat's Run in Tempe.  I did this two years ago, when Bobbbins was pregnant with MM (she slept in the car) and had a blast.  Even though it's a TON of people and not a very good course, it's all for a good cause.

Parking was tight.  Bobbins managed this:

The finish line.  That's me in the green shirt on the right.

My friend Jimmy from work also ran.

Don't know my official time, but I felt pretty good; probably hit my mark of 32 minutes.

Two MM Videos

MM learns push-ups with Dad, Josie as taskmaster

MM shows how tired she is before nap time

Well I am not sure if this tantrum is because she does not want to wear her new jammies anymore. Of course I love making her outfits and having her try them on, but I am pretty sure that she hates it. However these pictures show differently. And what they don't show is the the jelly bean I gave her before hand.

Last Sunday night we cooked up some mac and cheese and dogs and picnic'd on the front lawn.

Roof Repair

Sunday, with the help of Bobbins, I finally figured out the source of our roof leak.  It was a family affair applying the patching tar.  The point where the metal air duct met the roof had cracked, allowing water flowing down to pour into a small hole in the corner.

Josie stuck on the ground waiting.

Peanut Gallery inspected the final product.

New ASU Uniforms

ASU unveiled new uniforms today after much hype.  The cynic in me knew it was just hype, but it turned out to be pretty effective.  They did create quite a buzz.  Change is inevitable, but I feared they would come up with something atrocious.  The final results weren't that bad.  I am not a big fan of black but that's pretty common.  The maroon and gold jerseys didn't really change all that much.  The biggest change is the football helmets, which now feature a devil's fork instead of Sparky.

We all know the real reason for the change -- money.  Not the interest of the fans or a push by boosters, but an effort to bring in more money.  Sadly, college athletics, especially football and basketball, is all about that these days.  If ASU goes the route of Oregon, which has an odious cottage industry in uniforms and marketing, I might become less of a fan.  Thankfully they haven't gone that far (for now...).

Sat. Rosary

Saturday we packed up the girls and joined the dedicated group of older folks who pray the Rosary outside abortion clinics.  This day they were at the Acacia Women's Center, which is within walking distance of our house.  It was a freezing 50 degrees and raining.  It was really sad to see a teenage girl and her mom attempt to enter the clinic, which was closed.

Afterward, we invited the other moms over for brunch.  Bobbins broke out the party dishes we got from my grandmother.
