Building the Storage Shed

With the lockers out of the way, it was time to build a custom storage shed.  About 2/3 down the breezeway, where the original house ends and the add-on starts, there's a setback of about 2 feet.  We decided to tuck the shed into that so that the breezeway would be more clear.  The lockers had stuck out about 2 feet from the original wall.  The shed would be 3 feet deep, 8 feet wide, and 7 feet tall.  My dad came down to supervise the project (and provide most of the tools and all of the lumber).

Constructing the frame.

Moving it into place.

Attaching the first piece of siding on the back.

Feather, as always, was invaluable.

Carrying in the siding to attach to the front.

The original plan was to have two doors, but we decided this would cut down on the shelf space on the sides, so we went with just one.  We used one of the doors from the old lockers.

Floor with shop vac.  We put shelves on this side and the other.  It holds all of our junk perfectly.

Demolishing the Lockers

In preparation for the new stuff we were doing on the north side, I demo'd the old lockers that were the previous storage.  We decided that if we'd had my cousin's husband, the project would've only taken 1 hour instead of four.  But it got done.

This is how the lockers looked before.

They did the job but were a pain to open the different doors all the time.

S cleaned out a bunch of her art stuff.  She ended up donating a lot to ASU students.  We preserved enough for her to one day pass the talent on to the kids, hopefully.

Nothing beats a good crowbar.

You can see how much space we opened up.  The original plan was to enclose this with doors on each side but then we liked the open breezeway so much.

Demo was almost the easiest part.  Building would be more of a challenge.

Here We Go

Friends of ours talked us into creating this blog, so here goes.  It will mostly be a vehicle to share our travelogues and events around our house or regarding our family.  Occasionally we, or I, will post movie reviews, good articles, and political rants.  Hope you enjoy it.
