We go to the horse track one day every year at the beach.

Bobbins Trying to Sleep at the Beach

There's no a/c in the unit, since it's so close to the beach and breeze. This year was uncharacteristically hot, however, and the unit is closer to the street than to water. Bobbins gets very hot at  night and had a hard time sleeping. One night she even went on to the balcony but it didn't really work.

We made it to Solana Beach this summer, thankfully. Below are shots of us playing in the sand.

Ready for the Beach

I did a Costco run to get us ready for the Beach. We ended up with too much water, surprisingly, but everything else got consumed.

Our Own Krak des Chevaliers

Not content to build just any castle, I decided to re-create the Crusaders' fort in Syria called the Krak des Chevaliers after reading a book on the Crusades. I had to use modern plastic soldiers rather than knights, but on the whole, it was a faithful representation, with the moat added, of course. It withstood the waves all day until high tide.

 

Where'd Fish Go ?

One of the days on the beach we were all sitting at base camp, enjoying the sounds and breeze, while the kids played in the sand. At one point Bobbins asked where Thomas Fisher was. He wasn't around us and we couldn't see him. We knew he wasn't in the water because we kept a close eye on that. Turned out he had wandered to the left on his own to play by himself. He was over there a good 10 minutes just doing his own thing before we got him.

You have to look close, but he's right in the middle of the shot. That's how far away he was.
