New ASU Uniforms

ASU unveiled new uniforms today after much hype. The cynic in me knew it was just hype, but it turned out to be pretty effective. They did create quite a buzz. Change is inevitable, but I feared they would come up with something atrocious. The final results weren't that bad. I am not a big fan of black but that's pretty common. The maroon and gold jerseys didn't really change all that much. The biggest change is the football helmets, which now feature a devil's fork instead of Sparky.

We all know the real reason for the change -- money. Not the interest of the fans or a push by boosters, but an effort to bring in more money. Sadly, college athletics, especially football and basketball, is all about that these days. If ASU goes the route of Oregon, which has an odious cottage industry in uniforms and marketing, I might become less of a fan. Thankfully they haven't gone that far (for now...).

Sat. Rosary

Saturday we packed up the girls and joined the dedicated group of older folks who pray the Rosary outside abortion clinics. This day they were at the Acacia Women's Center, which is within walking distance of our house. It was a freezing 50 degrees and raining. It was really sad to see a teenage girl and her mom attempt to enter the clinic, which was closed.

Afterward, we invited the other moms over for brunch. Bobbins broke out the party dishes we got from my grandmother.

Obama 2012

Nevermind that it's practically two years away. Obama is at his best campaigning, and he realizes he needs to raise a boatload of cash for next November. This blog post from the LA Times explains it fairly well, while listing Obama's 'accomplishments' the last couple years. I thought it was especially rich the announcement was on the day AG Eric Holder backed down from civilian trials for the Gitmo terrorists and virtually embraced the system established by Bush 43. The one so heavily criticized by Obama in his last campaign.

This Republican parody of Obama's announcement video -- itself a mish-mash of diversity and feel-good-ism, especially the lone white guy -- apparently has gotten double the views of Obama's. Not the funniest thing out there, but the final scene is pretty good.
