9/11 Memorial & Museum, Ferry to Staten Island

After Mass, our next stop was the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, which are both very well done. There is a sense of peace at the Memorial, but also a tremendous sense of loss. Where the two towers had stood are what appear to be bottomless holes where the water flows. The Museum really captures the feel and sounds of that day. Technology was so much simpler, air travel so much easier. The human tragedy of the day is made very vivid. Since there's so much video and audio of the event you can re-live the trauma. Which is good, I suppose, so that we never forget, and never let it happen again. We got Bobbins a wheelchair which made her life a lot easier since it's a big museum.

We had lunch at this restaurant, which I ate at in Belgium and will always hold a special place for me. (Ask me why sometime.) Neat to see that it had jumped the pond to America. Not very cheap though.

It was Sunday afternoon and there weren't many ferries/tours to the Statue of Liberty, so we opted to take the free ferry to Staten Island. It doesn't really go near the Statue but you can see it well enough, and you can't beat the price.
