Lake Day - Boating to Beach

Our advance party had staked out a spot on a beach close to Davis Dam.  My dad transported us in the regular boat.

I think she was more interested in a screw than the water

Finally my dad cranked the throttle and we were on our way

Lake Day - Heading Out

Last Friday we went to Lake Mohave.  My sister organized the day, renting a regular boat and a pontoon boat for the day.  I used to go to this lake every now and then as a kid but hadn't been out there in about twenty years.

We of course had a lot of junk.  Because the kids needed to sleep in (not the adults at all), we were the last ones out.  My cousins Mavis and Becky carried the tubes while I hauled an ice chest and EZ-Up tent.  Carrying their noodles was enough for LeeBree and D Shea.

Oh so sad

I was organizing for an upcoming party and when all was said and done, the shelf came crashing down. We were in the family room talking and the sound of broken dishes came ringing to every ear hair I have. I just said I can't go, please tell me it was not the Christmas dishes. "Well, um..."  "Oh dear Lord help me, they are just plates and can be replaced." Every Christmas, starting at about age 10 till about 18, I was given a place setting of Spode Christmas dishes. At the time it was annoying but now priceless. As soon as Advent starts out comes the beauty of the tree and and all its glory. We picked up the pieces and had to move on. The good news is that the top plate in each china cover was the only one that was broken, to my knowledge. I suppose I willl find out this Advent. Since I have already started Marcelly on her set, I will take hers and re buy, at some point, for her again. After all she won't be using them for awhile.

As an after thought, part of my tea set broke too. Can you tell the importance of the set? I got it for 12$ and there is no sentiment attached, only age. I will glue the spout though, and said good bye to the sugar bowl.

Yes She's a Girl but ...

... doesn't mean she can't play with cool toys!

This is a drone robot from Iron Man 2.  Clearly, she likes it.

Bobbin probably should've washed it when she found it...

Two Other Graduation Photos

Family shot with Grandma Dwyer.

The five MHS grads in the family.  Jack talking of course.

Brother's Graduation

Thursday night my brother graduated from high school.  A lot of family came in for the big event.

The graduate with my sister and stepmom beforehand.

We had a great spread of deli meats and chips for dinner.

Mel hugging Jack while Pearl digs in.

The four great-granddaughters all wore matching dresses purchased earlier in the day.

The venue -- thank God it was indoors.

That's Zach next to the girl in the white sash, with Zach's best friend Jordan, the salutatorian, next to him.

The three siblings (all MHS grads) after the ceremony.

Objects that bring a smile

This past weekend when we were in BHC for a graduation, we cleaned out Granny's house, who is currently living with Christ. As sad as it was there were many great memories that came flooding back to everyone. There was an abundance of kitchen items, table linens, everything that reminds us of when women made a house a home. Almost all the food was made from scratch. French fry cutter, there were no Ore Ida hash browns or fries (which I have to admit are still pretty good), fries were made with a metal cutter that you squeezed the potatoes into and out came homemade love. There was a hamburger press, an omelet pan, and syrup spouts. The family grew up with a mom who knew how to be a mom and a wife, which was revealed when the bed room was cleaned.

However, me being the in-law made out with some pretty cool objects. These are the objects that make us smile whether it is because we say to ourselves "oh that was in Granny's house", or "gosh I should have lived in those times, imagine the household happiness."

These aluminum canisters replaced our white ceramic ones. Seeing as we don't drink coffee, there is real sugar in the coffee. The sugar canister now has SPLENDA.

My odd obsession with old tin cans was satisfied when this Snickers can was brought to the surface. One, being who doesn't like Snicker's and two why not take it home to store all my zippers or other odds and end sewing material. Behind the delicious snack there is a lazy susan for sewers. Spools on top, trinkets on bottom. It's wonderful. The recipes
box can replace my cardboard button container. All sewers have those buttons that have been collected from shirts that have extra buttons, or buttons we've found, or buttons we intend to use. Inside this recipe box there will be a new ideas and old ideas for the average use of a button.

An original step stool. Matches the sewing table. How more perfect could it be?

Pillow cases that will be turned into dresses. Hand embroidered by Granny herself.

LAST but not LEAST!

My, I mean Marcelly's new doll house!
This was actually our cousin's who grew out of it and needed to pass on the love. So I bounced on this like a cat out of a bag. I found myself planning the new furniture and where I can put flower boxes. Of course Marcelly's can play with this too... when she is 10. For now it sits on a throne of out weighing all the doll houses ever created by matell, or barbie, or bratz, or polly. This is a small castle for the princess of, well, any European country for that matter. A small cottage that is tucked away near a small flowing river, where she can escape the trials of being royalty.

I swear this is really for the girls.
I have a few rooms finished with some furniture. This is just to give an idea of its beauty. Oh which by the way, the stairs actually take you to another room. Not just the ceiling.

A small mention to Melissa and Doug. I have liked your puzzles before, but now that I know you create doll furniture you are that much more important to me.
